Frequently Asked Questions

What is adult Speech Therapy?

Adult speech therapy helps patient improve their quality of life by getting better control of their communication, voice, speech, swallowing and cognition after a stroke, head injury, cancer, dementia, and progressive neurological disease such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.

What do I expect from the evaluation?

Prior to the evaluation, a questionnaire regarding your concerns and medical history will be completed.

At the evaluation, the Speech Pathologist will have the opportunity to assess the patient based on his concerns (communication, cognition, swallowing, voice, and speech production). Assessments may include standardized testing, observation, caregiver interview, and review of previous evaluations. The evaluation results will determine if treatment is necessary. Treatment cannot be initiated unless an evaluation has been completed.

Referrals to other professionals may be recommended as part of the treatment plan if the client shows difficulties in areas outside of the speech pathologist's scope of practice. This may include Audiology, ENT, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Gastroenterologists, etc.

How long is the evaluation?

The length of time to evaluate depends on the complexity of each case. Normally it ranges from 45-60 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on each person and their individual needs. Number of visits will be determined after initial evaluation.

At Speech Neuro Abilities LLC, we specialize in neurorehabilitation with a strong commitment to a person-centered approach. Our certified speech-language pathologist brings nearly two decades of clinical experience, offering high-quality, bilingual care in the comfort of your home, in-office, or via teletherapy.

What sets us apart is our belief that rehabilitation goes beyond physical recovery — it’s a journey that involves the whole person.
